Traditionally Healthy Dog Breeds

It’s normal for people to look for the healthiest dog breeds when eyeing to buy a puppy. This is because they want their pet to live with them longer and stay healthy all throughout its life. When buying a puppy, considering the exact type of breed that’s recognized by the American Kennel Club is an important aspect that every dog lover should seriously look into.

On top of the dog’s breed, another important consideration that dog owners must look into when buying a puppy is the breed’s living requirements, health, temperament, and over all track record.

Basenji

Basenji is a popular hunting dog that is also best known for its ability to live longer than traditional and common hunting dogs. The breed has a 12-16 years of life expectancy, which is quite longer than the typical hunting dogs.

However, this dog has the tendency to develop hip and joint disorder given its active behavior. However, in general, the dog can keep up with the leading hunting dog when it comes to its ability to be trained and learn basic hunting skills.

Greyhounds

The Greyhound is one of the oldest dog breeds  that originated in Europe. It was originally bred for racing with its long legs that are perfect for a running dog. Aside from its racing abilities, the dog can also make a good family dog that’s very friendly to any members of the family especially among children.

The breed’s most common health issue is its likelihood to develop dental issues considering its raw meat and bone-based diet. However, if you don’t raise this dog for racing, you may alter its main diet in such a way that it doesn’t hamper its health.

Beagles

Beagle is a small to medium-sized of dog that can live up to 15 years. They are perfect family pet but can develop eye issues when they get older.
